The cartoon shows increased sumoylation of proteins during OGD and subsequent desumoylation after ROG in proliferating and differentiated P19 cells (RA-treated). Key proteins, the sumoylation of which is important for survival outcomes, are depicted. Less SUMO targets were detected in differentiated cells, but they were similar to those detected in proliferating cells. In the latter, the net balance in terms of cell protection was positive (+) even though modification of some factors is unfavorable to survival (–).
