Based on this work, we propose that the DA gastrula cells (red) contribute to brain ECs, the DL gastrula cells (blue) to anterior trunk ECs, and the VL gastrula cells (green) to posterior trunk ECs. This new model suggests that vascular ECs are derived from broad areas of the gastrula and are not limited to the VL gastrula cells. AP animal pole, Dor dorsal, Ven ventral.
