Under tension, a quadrupolar-stress field is generated around an STZ, showing that the tensile stress (outwards pointing green arrows) acts along the y-direction and a compressive stress (inwards pointing green arrows) occurs perpendicular to it. The dashed lines show the angle of α1 (percolation direction of the STZs), and the purple arrows indicate the deviation direction of the angle.
