Genes were partitioned by mitochondrial vs non-mitochondrial gene function (left and right facets), ancestral/neo-sex genomic location (top and bottom facets), and W versus Z sex linkage (left and right within facets). Genes with Z- and W-linked gametologs represented in both lineages are connected by grey lines. Genes with Dxy values outside the plot scale limits are depicted with open circles (untruncated scale in Supplementary Fig. 3). Genes are labelled if the difference in between-lineage Dxy (ΔDxy) of their Z- and/or W-linked gametologs are significant outliers (Z-score >1.96), relative to the overall distribution of ΔDxy.
