XopD of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris strain 8004 (XopD in our study) contains three plant-specific ethylene-responsive element binding factor-associated amphiphilic repression (EAR) motifs (red) at the N terminus, followed by a C-terminal cysteine protease domain (purple), and a plant nuclear localization sequence (NLS) at the C terminus. XopDXe from X. euvesicatoria strain 85-10 (Xe85-10) contains an N-terminal extension sequence (grey) and a putative DNA-binding helix-loop-helix domain (DBD, green) which are absent in XopD. XopDXe has only two EAR motifs.
