In all panels, blue lines represent model simulation with the best agreement to data and experimental data points are represented as mean values with error bars (SEM). Individual data points are shown as empty circles. Red lines are simulations of the type 2 diabetic conditions, and these simulations are model predictions without corresponding data. All model simulations of the effect of type 2 diabetes are available in the Supplementary Information, in the “Time series of all sites added to the model” section. The model agreement was assessed with a χ2-test, as described in the “Statistical analysis” section.
