a, The JWST NIRSpec IFU mosaic sequence used to capture Jupiter’s GRS area on 27 July 2022, shown together with the 3 μm aerosol scattering from the upper troposphere. The times are the midpoint of each observation, and the background image is a JWST Near Infrared Camera (NIRCAM) observation from 27 July 2022 20:27:10 using the F440W filter. Figure 2 shows spectra at points P1 and P2. b, The integrated H3+ radiance extracted from the NIRSpec observations. The horizontal grey lines show the magnetic dip angle, and the vertical grey lines shows the orientation of the magnetic field lines as mapped above the surface, spaced by 10° longitude9. The oval shows the location of the GRS.
