  1. All reactions were performed on a gram scale. Diastereomeric ratio of esters ‘a’ in crude reaction mixtures after the photochemical step is given. Isolated yields of acids ‘b’ are given in three steps from allylic alcohols. aProduct was isolated by crystallization from hexane–MeOtBu mixture. bProduct was isolated by crystallization from acetone–water mixture. cProduct was isolated by column chromatography.
