Scatterplot of Southeast Pacific-averaged shortwave low-cloud radiative feedbacks λswcld, low predicted via cloud controlling factor analysis on the abscissa (see Methods; Fig. 5) versus actual feedbacks on the ordinate (that is, diagnosed from the AMIP experiments by regressing annual-mean, global-mean cloud radiative anomalies onto global-mean surface air temperature \(\bar{T}\)). Black solid line indicates the observed estimate inferred from MODIS observations and the red circle indicates the CESM2 value. Compared to most other CMIP6 models, CESM2 exhibits a stronger low-cloud shortwave feedback, consistent with observations.
