The morphology of each flat surface is quantified by its mean rebounded (ice-free) elevation and median local relief. Circles represent the 31 flat surface fragments mapped in this study (colours correspond to geological provinces; see Extended Data Fig. 6). BIC = Bayes Information Criterion; a lower BIC indicates a better-fitting model (see Methods).
