Previous studies attributing changes in N:P ratios in Sargassum biomass to anthropogenic N-enrichment by Lapointe et al., 2021 appear to follow mostly natural nutrient availability in waters of the equatorial North Atlantic when including Sargassum biomass N:P data from McGillicuddy et al., 2023. Note that N:P in Sargassum is twice as high as the water.
