There is no significant direct or total effect. (b) The effect of neural precision on risky choice precision for the task using symbolic presentation format is mediated by perceptual choice variability. There is no significant direct or total effect. The effect of neural diminishing sensitivity on risky choice precision for the task using (c) non-symbolic numbers is mediated by perceptual choice precision, but less so for (d) symbolic numbers. One-sided Bayesian ‘p-values’ were calculated using hierarchical Bayesian mediation analysis (see Methods and Extended Data Fig. 9b).
