Female 6-8 week old C57BL/6 mice were immunized i.n. with doses equivalent to 3×105, 3×106 or 3×107 CFU of AIBP vaccine (twice at 0 and 4 weeks) or PBS and challenged at week 6 by exposure to an aerosol from a culture containing 1×109 CFU/mL live B. pertussis. Live bacterial loads in lung and nasal tissue quantified by CFU counts 7, 14 and 21 days post live B. pertussis challenge. Data are presented as mean ± s.e.m. for biological replicates (n = 5).
