a, Upon MWCNT recognition, Siglec-14 transmits activation signals leading to phagocytosis and IL-8 induction. Phagocytosed MWCNTs cause phagosomal rupture, resulting in NLRP3 inflammasome activation and caspase-1 activation leading to IL-1β secretion. b, Upon SWCNT recognition, Siglec-14 transmits activation signals leading to phagocytosis and IL-8 induction.
