A contiguous, long-axis, left ventricular outflow tract cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging stack should be acquired to visualize and assess all the mitral valve cusps (A1–P1, A2–P2 and A3–P3). Extra planes to the commissural line also need to be considered, as demonstrated by the lines ‘a’ and ‘b’. LAA, left atrial appendage.
