Extended Data Table 3 Effect of climate on ecosystem functions along the natural-habitat elevation gradient

From: Climate–land-use interactions shape tropical mountain biodiversity and ecosystem functions

  1. For each ecosystem-function variable, standardized effect-strength values for MAT and MAP are presented. Effect-strength values were calculated by multimodel averaging of parameter estimates over best-fit climate models (ΔAIC < 3; null models are also considered). Analyses were conducted only with data from natural habitats. Colours indicate positive (green), neutral (white) and negative (red) effects. The third column shows the variation explained (R2) by the best-supported climate model. The statistical sample size was n = 30 study sites, except for the following variables: leaf decomposition, n = 28; plant biomass, n = 28; fine root biomass, n = 29; woody plant regrowth, n = 29; dung decomposition, n = 29; frugivory, n = 19; insect herbivory, n = 20; ant foraging, n = 19; and parasitism, n = 5.
