Error bars indicate ±1 standard error from the mean. Statistically significant (*P < 0.05; **P < 0.01) and nonsignificant (NS) differences in changes in mean precipitation over deforested regions compared with controls are indicated. Results are shown for the wettest 3 months (wet), the driest 3 months (dry) and the transition months (remaining 6 months). Datasets used in this analysis detailed in Extended Data Table 1.
