a, Pseudotime analysis was performed with Monocle386. Cells expressing proliferating cell nuclear antigen (pcna), a key component of the DNA replication machinery and a marker of the G1 phase87, and belonging to clusters c7, c10, and c16, were identified as progenitor cells and defined as the root point. Cells are colour coded according to their pseudotemporal ordering. b, Expression patterns of selected marker genes, representing the different stages of proliferation and differentiation. The marker ccnd1 is a member of the cyclin family that regulates the cell-cycle transition from G1 to S phase88. The markers fabp7a and her4.1 are typically expressed in radial glia89,90. Delta A (dla) regulates cell fate specification91, and elavl3 is expressed in postmitotic neurons.
