Extended Data Fig. 6: Contributions to the uncertainty on \({{\bf{\sin }}}^{{\bf{2}}}{\boldsymbol{(}}{{\boldsymbol{\theta }}}_{{\bf{ee}}}{\boldsymbol{)}}\) from statistics and systematics at 68% C.L.
From: Sterile-neutrino search based on 259 days of KATRIN data

The figure comprises two panels: Top) Comparison of the combined systematic and statistical uncertainties for three representative values of \({m}_{4}^{2}\): 2 eV2 (blue), 101 eV2 (yellow), and 401 eV2 (green). This illustrates that statistical uncertainty consistently dominates across all \({m}_{4}^{2}\) values. Bottom) Individual systematic effects are displayed, each represented by three coloured bars corresponding to the same \({m}_{4}^{2}\) values as in the top panel. The x-axis quantifies the uncertainty in \({\sin }^{2}({\theta }_{{\rm{ee}}})\) for each systematic effect, demonstrating their relative contributions to the total uncertainty.
