Linear regression of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2 ppm; a,b); mean annual temperature (°C; c,d); temperature change (°C; e,f); total nitrogen (N) deposition (kg ha−1; g, h); and total basal area (m2 ha−1; i,j) plotted over time (average year) and space (latitude), respectively. All relationships are significant (P < 0.05). A small horizontal offset was applied to the time plots (a,c,e,g,i) to increase the visibility of the data points (see Statistical methods).
