  1. Race data is not available for participants of the Framingham Heart Study (FHS). The FHS is a longitudinal community-based prospective cohort study. It started enrolling the original participants in 1948 and has since been followed by consecutive enrollments of the Offspring cohort (children of the original participants and their spouses) in the 1970s and the Third-Generation (Gen 3) cohort (children of the Offspring participants) from 2002-2005. All original participants are of White/European ancestry. Few exceptions might be spouses or adoptees. The degree of missing data for Race and Smoking status is the difference between the summed values and the total number of participants in each cohort. The degree of missingness of BMI was n = 4 for FHS and n = 83 for NLST. Percentages refer to the data after the exclusion of missing values.
