A simplified depiction of a MEP measurement for the illustration of the placement of the markers. Marker 1 is the point usually referred to as the latency, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The second marker indicates the first major peak in the signal, the third the first zero-line crossing, the fourth the first major low point, and finally the fifth marker marks the point at which the signal returns to the zero-line. The exact locations of these markers may be somewhat subjective in MEPs with strong fluctuations in the signal. Therefore, previous work has mainly focused on the first marker, i.e., the latency.
