Examples of (a,c) direct and (b,d) indirect interface reactions for fluorinated/defluorinated structure pairs. In (a) there is a single tie-line connecting the fluorinated (KBrF4) and defluorinated (KBr) structures. In (b) the drawn-in dotted-line between NaBiF6 and NaBi crosses over the tie-lines connecting NaF/BiF3 and NaF/Bi, leading to disproportionation to the phases on either end of the crossed tie-lines as F is removed. The interface reaction coordinates (c/d) reflect these predictions.
