Spatial distribution of the mean and standard deviation of nitrate (a,b) and phosphate (c,d) concentrations during the target period of estimation (1980–2019). The mean concentration and variability are highest in the Yellow Sea and near Hokkaido, Japan. The high standard deviation observed in the northwest Pacific off the southeast coast of Japan is attributed to the lack of data.
