Results from testing different components of the workflow related to image and pixel processing for a subset of the DOC dataset. (a) A plot of variance explained for each training model run conducted on log10-transformed in situ data that included the indicated components. Results are plotted for the 5 different ways that reflectance is summarized by lake (see text). ‘Whole-lake Ratios’ are ratios calculated on median band data, whereas ‘Pixel Ratios’ are those ratios first calculated at the pixel-level and then the median value is calculated; ‘All Bands’ includes all bands; ‘Overcorrection Filter’ is the flag for when there is negative median reflectance. (b) A plot of % OOB variance explained by matchup window and the 5 different ways that reflectance is summarized by lake. Models are based on a 500-lake subset that contained DOC matchups, with some lakes being sampled more than once (N = 1,348).
