Schematic of the folding principle of chromosome. Chromatin type A is enriched with CG sequences and CTCF-binding sites. Thus, chromatin type A has relatively smaller chromatin loops compared to chromatin type B. Larger chromatin loops tend to aggregate around nuclear membrane, suggesting an entropy-driven chromatin compartmentalization. Chromosomes with larger median chromatin loops prefer nuclear periphery, also implying an entropy-driven chromosome positioning. The distribution of various genome features are related to chromatin compartmentalization.
