Figure 1

Statistical results for the lFCS in the BD, MDD, and healthy controls. (a) Clusters showing significant group effects (p < 0.001 Alphasim corrected, ANCOVA). The brain surfaces were visualized using BrainNet Viewer (http://www.nitrc.org/projects/bnv/). (b) Post-hoc analyses of the lFCS for these significant clusters. The ‘BD’ type indicates that the lFCS in the cluster was specifically altered in the BD patients but not in the MDD patients. The ‘shared’ type indicates that the cluster with altered lFCS was detected in both the BD and MDD patients. ◊, ∆, and ○ in the scatter plot indicate the mean lFCS values of a given cluster for a subject in the BD, MDD, and control groups, respectively. Red dots indicate outliers. The box plot shows the median (red line), interquartile range (blue lines), and sample minimum and maximum values (dark lines). The horizontal lines on top indicate pairwise comparisons that survived statistical thresholds: ***p < 0.001; **p < 0.01; *p < 0.05. Abbreviations: lFCS, long-range functional connectivity strength; BD (MDD), bipolar (major depressive) disorder; MTG, middle temporal gyrus; B (R), bilateral (right).
