From: Cathepsin D regulates lipid metabolism in murine steatohepatitis

Schematic overview illustrating the proposed by which CTSD participates in the development of hepatic inflammation. Based on findings of the current study, increased levels of CTSD lead to a disturbance in lipid metabolism, which is known to result in increased plasma cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) and triglyceride (hypertriglyceridemia) levels. Consequently, hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia can lead to hepatic inflammation.
