Expression profile of skeletal muscle biopsies of ALS patients and controls. (A) The diagrams plot the relative transcript levels of the genes analyzed by reverse qPCR, calculated according to the 2−ΔΔCt method, using ACTB as housekeeping gene for normalization. All data were expressed as mean fold change ± SD across replicates, with control values set to 1. Unpaired t-test was used to detect the statistical significance between ALS and controls values; *P ≤ 0.05, **P ≤ 0.01, ****P ≤ 0.0001. (B) Quantitative analysis of western blot for HDAC4 protein expression in muscle specimens of ALS patients and controls. Relative protein content was determined by optical density of the HDAC4 bands normalized to stain free gel.
