Effect of SiNPs on in vivo rabbit corneas. (A) Corneal transparency of rabbit corneas is well maintained at two weeks after the intracameral injection (200 mg/mL, 0.05 ml) of three sizes (50, 100, and 150 nm) of SiNPs. (B) The hexagonal architecture of the corneal endothelium is well maintained after two weeks of treatment of each SiNP size. The DAPI stained nucleus with blue and red represents the F-actin. (C) Endothelial cell count was performed in 500 μm × 500 μm square areas. Cell density was not affected by two weeks after SiNPs treatment. (D) Histologic examination (Hematoxylin and Eosin staining) revealed normal corneal endothelial cell layer in both control and all treated groups. Lower panels are magnified images of rectangular area of upper panels.
