Future groundwater consumption and related energy consumption. In the South-to-North Water Diversion Project area, the average annual groundwater extraction from 2004 to 2013 was 23.77 billion m3 and the energy consumption of groundwater exploitation was 6.35 billion kWh. The predicted groundwater withdrawals in 2020 and 2030 are 20.79 and 17.32 billion m3, and predicted energy consumption is 5.41 and 4.0 billion kWh, respectively.
