Visual-motion decision task and experimental manipulation (a) Participants reported the direction (up/down) of coherent motion in a display of randomly moving dots with a left- or right-hand button-press. For each trial, the mapping from choice to response was newly assigned with a cue before the stimulus (choice-response mapping cue). Furthermore, at the beginning of each trial, an instructed-response cue indicated subjects to either press the left button, the right button or no button. (b) Instructed-response cues.
