From: Acoustic Waveguide Eigenmode Solver Based on a Staggered-Grid Finite-Difference Method

Three acoustic modes (x- and y-shear and pressure waves) are simulated in a suspended silicon beam in a truncated simulation domain using symmetric and anti-symmetric boundary conditions and compared with the same modes simulated in the full simulation domain. (a) Schematic depictions of the symmetric and anti-symmetric boundary conditions and simulated mode shapes. (b) Comparison of mode shape and eigenfrequency error between the modes obtained with the full simulation domain, and the truncated simulation domain using symmetry/anti-symmetry boundary conditions. Increased errors at the shortest wavelengths are due to the mode solver returning mixed modes when the eigenfrequencies are nearly degenerate.
