Plant-produced hOPN increased the mRNA expression of osteogenic markers. PDL cells from three different donors were treated with of 9 ng/ml gelatin, 9 ng/ml commercial hOPN, and 1, 5, 9 ng/ml plant-produced hOPN for 24 hours. Total RNA was extracted and real time PCR was performed using primer sets for human OSX, DMP1, and Wnt3a genes. Relative mRNA expression values were calculated normalized to the cells treated with gelatin. The values obtained for control gelatin were set at 1 for subsequent fold change calculation.
