Overview of the present study investigating the microbiome of raw-eaten Brassicaceae. The composition and the crucial drivers of the vegetable microbiomes were determined using cultivation-independent 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. Cultivation-dependent approach was performed to isolate bacteria from vegetables that execute specific health-promoting functions: myrosinase activity proving potential anti-cancer effects in humans and antagonistic activity towards V. longisporum. Additionally, in order to locate bacterial myrosinase genes in different parts of Brassica plants, the metagenomes of E. sativa´s and B. napus´ phyllosphere, rhizosphere and bulk soil were investigated.
