  1. To ensure consistency, the analysis was limited to high quality bases (q > 30) and duplicates were removed after merging of both sequencing libraries. The SNP RS4988235 in LCT is responsible for lactase persistence in Europe37,38. Both SNPs at SLC24A5 and SLC45A2 are considered to be responsible for light skin pigmentation39, whereas the SNP in HERC2 is the primary determinant of light eye color in present-day Europeans40,41. The SNP in the gene EDAR affects tooth morphology and hair thickness42,43, and was not found to be derived in the investigated sample. All these results were obtained on the 390K SNP capture dataset.
