From: Mixing it up in the ocean carbon cycle and the removal of refractory dissolved organic carbon
Microbial utilization of C-18 DOC in surface (50 m), mesopelagic (500 m), and deep (1200 m) waters of the Atlantic Ocean. DOC was isolated using C-18 solid phase extraction, and the C-18 DOC was added to the incubations at high concentrations (~10-fold higher than in situ values). Microbial inocula were collected from the same depths as the C-18 DOC and added (1:50) to the incubations. The x-axis shows the duration of incubation on a linear scale. Data are reported as the average value and standard deviation (n = 3).
