Representative load-displacement curves for nanocrystalline tungsten in pristine and helium ion implanted states indented to maximum loads of (a) 3 mN and (b) 10 mN. The implanted sample exhibited a shift in the load-displacement curves to larger indentation depths indicative of a reduction in hardness, which was more prominent at the shallower depths under the 3 mN load.
