For widths below 100 nm, the gap field amplitude oscillates around the value given by the Fresnel equations (gray dashed line). Whereas, the field amplitude in conventional macroscopic slits converges to the value of the dielectric thin film (black and green dashed lines), regardless of the side metal faces.
