In the future, differences in isopycnal deepening between the gyre and coastal regions mean that more nutrients are transported to the CCS. Enhanced local alongshore winds promote coastal upwelling, and changes in mesoscale eddies and wind stress curl promote upward nutrient flux in the offshore region.
