An examples of the modified threshold equalizing noise (TEN) stimulus in the second study. The upper panel is a block diagram of the stimulus pattern. Stimulation was made up of part TEN only and part pure tone embedded in TEN. The modified stimulus elicits onset (first dashed line), ACC (second red dashed line), and offset (last dashed line) responses. When the stimulus was presented and pure tones were added to TEN, rise/fall time of 5- or 10- ms was applied to the stimulus to avoid abrupt onset/offset artifacts.
