A higher magnification of lobe IV/V of NPC1+/+ (C) and NPC1−/− mice (D) demonstrates the loss of Purkinje cell somata in NPC1−/− mice. (E) Western blot analysis confirmed a reduced number of PCs by a significantly decreased protein level of calbindin (NPC1+/+: N = 8, n = 25; NPC1−/−: N = 8, n = 23). Western blot bands display corresponding examples of the same gel. ***p < 0.001, data shown as mean ± sem. Student´s unpaired t-test was used to determine significance.
