Macroscopic and microscopic views of native and decellularized tissue constructs. Native left-ventricular slab of porcine origin and left ventricular derived decellularized pcECM scaffold (a, upper and lower panels, respectively). The pcECM is heterogeneous and comprises areas of dense collagen (stronger white color) adjacent to more spacious ECM (pale shades). Masson’s trichrome (MTC) staining of native and pcECM matrices demonstrating the effectiveness of the decellularization (lack of red color attributed to cells) and the degree of ECM fiber ultrastructure preservation (in blue, b, upper and lower panels, respectively). Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of native and pcECM matrices (c, upper and lower panels, respectively). Representative images are presented out of n = 5 samples in each group and at least three different regions of interest (ROI) images in each case. Scale bar: 100 µm.
