Experimental paradigm and stimulus. (a) Overview of the stimulus representation. Ambiguous movies were generated by the deformation of dots calculated from the original image. Stimuli consisted of 60 movies of non-living objects (e.g., cup). (b) Protocol for Experiment 2. In each trial, the fixation point was presented for 1,000 ms, following which the stimulus was presented for 3,000 ms. Each trial was separated by an inter-stimulus interval (ISI) of 2,000 ms. Participants reported whether they were able to recognize the contents of the movie following each trial using the keypad.
