AFM-QI time lapse images showing topography and Young’s moduli during cell division. Height images (A,C,E,G and I) clearly show various stages of septum formation and separation of daughter cells, whereas QI maps (B,D,F,H and J) probe changes to surface elasticity. Elasticity was unaltered during cell division, and only elasticity values from the middle of cells were considered accurate due to artifacts at cell edges.
