From: Transcriptome analysis highlights nuclear control of chloroplast development in the shoot apex
Chloroplast development in tomato is distinct from that in monocots (maize). Cellular localization of up- and down-regulated DEGs across the chloroplast developmental gradients in tomato and maize11. Of the 223 DEGs we identified in the tomato shoot apex, about 70 showed a similar behavior in maize leaves (see Supplementary Table 2), the majority of which were up-regulated and encode for plastidial proteins.
