CAFE consumption of Blue 1 equates with excretion of Blue 1. (A) In control r[A] females, the volume of liquid medium consumed from capillary feeders (CAFE) and excreted (ExVial + ExPlug) was significantly increased by starvation, but the two measures were statistically indistinguishable (two-way ANOVA; starvation, p < 0.0001; measure, p = 0.5302, interaction, p = 0.3537; n = 18–24 per group). (B) Additional analysis of the data in panel A. The volume of liquid medium consumed from capillary feeders (CAFE) correlated with ExVial, ExPlug and ExVial + ExPlug (Pearson correlations: R2 = 0.6573, R2 = 0.8165, R2 = 0.9539, p < 0.0001 for all, n = 42).
