In vitro [18F]-FIAU labeling of wild-type and tk-engineered A. baumannii (AB), B. pseudomallei (Bp82) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PAO1). Bacteria (109 CFU/mL in PBS) were incubated with [18F]-FIAU (150 µCi/mL) for 2 h or 3.5 h and the washed cells were analyzed by a Gamma counter to determine the amount of radioactivity disintegrations per minute (DPM) present in the cells. One-way ANOVA analysis between wild-type (WT) and cognate tk-derivatives (TK) established statistically significant difference (P < 0.0001) in radioactivity accumulation at each time point.
