(A) Time evolution of the kinetically defined states P1–P4 in the presence of lower (e.g. 10 mM, upper panel) and higher (e.g. 1,000 mM, lower panel) concentrations of Cl−. Cl− conducting and non-conducting states of PsuACR1 are shown as red and blue lines, respectively. (B) The amount of M in the P3 state (black) is plotted against the logarithm of the Cl− concentration. The amount was calculated by subtracting the absorbance at 400 nm in the initial P0 state from that in the P3 state for M at each Cl− concentration.
