Analysis methods. (a) The angle at which the neurite-like processes of PC12 cells extend from the channel is measured as the angle from the growth cone to the channel structure, and the straightness of their growth is calculated as the ratio of contour length, L to end-to-end length, R of the process. (b) The spacing between two adjacent channels is measured by subtracting the radii of the two channels from the distance between the centres of mass of the channels. (c) The area on which FFT analysis is performed is a 30 µm × 10 µm window cropped from near the interface between the channel and collagen matrix.
